Jonathan Reeve Price, Mars Remix, 2015, Aluminum Print
This is my remix of a NASA picture of Mars. I zoom in, to examine each pixel. I pull back to see rocks, then ravines, and then from high up, a giant crater. I analyze the entire picture and in the process I tear it apart.
I am busily dissolving what NASA once glued together. I take a close up picture and paste that on top of the surface of Mars. I snap images at multiple zoom levels, showing Mars at different scales, from pebble to planet.
I'm interested in the whole experience of zooming in and then zooming out, exploring the pixelated landscape of the image. Mars is almost incidental. It is my target, my apparent subject. But my real passion is the pixels.
The people who buy 44”x44” paper prints, or the 24”x24” or 12” x 12” aluminum prints of my Satellite Remix ask me how I did it, and why. I can't say, exactly. But here's a rough journal of my explorations. Perhaps you can make sense of it all. See my blog post, Planet Remix: Mars 001

Process for Aluminum Prints
We print on aluminum, then protect the surface with a matte lamination. We attach mounting hardware to the back, and add the artist's signature on a label identifying the picture, and giving its number in the edition.
We package the print in tissue paper and extra layers of cardboard. We ship via US Priority Mail, insured.
Please allow two weeks for printing, packaging, and shipping.
When you receive your order, please check to make sure that the picture is just what you are hoping for. If you have any problem with the picture, please contact jonathanreeveprice@gmail.com. Within 14 days of delivery, we accept returns for a full refund.
These images work best without a frame. Each print comes with mounting hardware already attached to the back, so you can hang it up right away. No need for wiring, or framing.

Process for the paper print (44”x 44”)
Your picture gets our careful, individual attention.
We print it on a baryta-coated fiber-based satin paper with excellent archival properties, enhanced definition, and extended tonal range. Then we laminate the print to preserve the image against fingerprints and dust. Overall, our printing process takes approximately two weeks.
We then ship the print to you in a solid mailing tube, using U.S. Priority Mail, insured for the full value. We send you an email with the tracking number. Shipping usually takes 2 business days.
