Intersection d'Autoroute
Intersection d'Autoroute
Jonathan Reeve Price, Intersection d'Autoroute, 2018, Giclée print, 39" x 22" (100 x 55.6 cm)
It takes a lot of software to destroy a perfectly good map. I start with an intersection, in yellow. But as I pull back, I see dozens of crossroads, divides, roundabouts…the tangle of French traffic.
So I have included the toolbars from Pixelmator and Paintbrush, to give you some idea of the brushes, buckets, pens, and pointers that I have used to demolish the original, and resurrect the spider's web of lines as pure lines, freed from the locale, the labels, the meaningful colors. Abstract, then, but hinting at the territory underneath: a landscape without sheep.
I am transparent, behind the map, reaching through it to point to the place where the roads come together. At that moment, the map itself becomes translucent.
Below, I show a snippet of the original, the Michelin map of the Paris area, in their Atlas Routier de France.

Our Process
Your picture gets our careful, individual attention.
We print it on a baryta-coated fiber-based satin paper with excellent archival properties, enhanced definition, and extended tonal range. Then we laminate the print to preserve the image against fingerprints and dust. Overall, our printing process takes approximately two weeks.
We then ship the print to you in a solid mailing tube, using U.S. Priority Mail, insured for the full value. We send you an email with the tracking number. Shipping usually takes 2 business days.
