We are zooming in on the A86 highway along the Seine, just West of Paris, taking off from the Michelin map of the region, to analyze the lines, colors, and traffic. We are near the section of the river where Claude Monet painted sailboats and the railroad bridge to Argenteuil.

We are peering through the traces of the vector graphic of this intersection, with an inset of the regional map, and a blowup of the focal point, where A86 meets D106 also known as Rue Paul Bert, named for an anticlerical politician in charge of public instruction who advocated for laicity—mandatory free public schools for all, outside of the influence of the church.

France has no systematic numbering system for its autoroutes. So A86 happens to be the official name for the Paris super-périphérique, a kind-of sort-of ring road around and through Paris. (It supplements three other roads around Paris…the périphérique, the Francilienne, and the "grand contournement de Paris.") In our picture, this major route moves along the Seine, between Argenteuil and Bois Colombes, near the Siaap water treatment plant in Colombes--la Cité de l’Eau et de l'Assainissement, with a school for water professionals. You can almost smell the sewage from here.
